Michigan State Football vs Washington Football Prediction Features Washington -3.5 at BetMGM

Week 3 marks a major challenge for the No. 11 Michigan State Spartans and unranked Washington Huskies, as both teams get their first real test of the season. The Spartans defeated Western Michigan and Akron to open the year, while Washington defeated Kent State and Portland State. They’ve both played inferior competition, but they’re both 2-0 ATS (ATS), so Saturday’s game could end on the wire.

Michigan State comes into the game having shut out Akron 52-0, and as dominant as they’ve come through two games, we weren’t impressed with QB Payton Thorne. He completed just 57.7% of his passes and had three interceptions against MAC opponents. Washington’s defense isn’t phenomenal, but it will be better than the two teams Michigan State has faced. If Washington takes an early lead and the Spartans can’t fully utilize their rushing offense (228.5 rushing yards per game), it could be a recipe for disaster for the visitors.

Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer has taken over this season, and their offense has already improved. QB Michael Penix Jr. completed 69.7% of his passes for 682 yards and six touchdowns to go with an interception. They rank fourth in the nation in expected points added per game, which is impressive even if it was against lower competition. Overall, the Huskies have an advantage over the Spartans at QB, and they should be able to attack a fragile Michigan State secondary.

Washington is an unranked home favorite this Saturday against a ranked opponent, which is almost always a sign that the home team might be overlooked by the general public. Sports betting is higher in Washington than the AP poll, and our Michigan State vs. Washington’s prediction is Washington -3.5.
