The Mount St. Mary’s men’s and women’s tennis teams return to action this weekend by hosting the Mountaineer Invitational while also sending a men’s team to the Loyola Invitational.

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers opened the 2022-23 season at the Bucknell Invitational on September 2-4. It was a successful start to the season as Victoria Papadopoulou took home the Flight A singles title while Adriana Barney was the Flight B singles winner. Amber Policare and Bella Pescatore captured the A draw double title as well. Jarrett Karnibad advanced to the Flight B singles championship on the men’s side.

THE COMPETITION: The Mount, Howard and Saint Francis U will have both men’s and women’s teams competing at the Mountaineer Invitational while Delaware State and St. Francis Brooklyn will be sending women’s teams only. At Loyola, the Mount will join host Loyola, Goucher and Harford Community College at the Loyola Invitational.

FORMAT: Each school enters double pairs in the tournament. Those pairs will play a doubles match, and the individuals will then face each other in best-of-three formats. Winning teams advance in the bracket while the losing teams move into consolations.

Loyola will use a points of the compass draw. At the end of each round, the winners continue their competition in the same direction, while the losers move to a traditional consolation bracket and then to satellite brackets that ensure each team will play four matches. Each school will enter four doubles teams, and each line of the bracket will be played by opposing pairs. The teams will play an eight-game pro-set doubles match, and the individuals will then face each other in best-of-three formats with the third set played as a super-tiebreaker.

BRACKETS and RESULTS: The brackets are linked above, and results will be updated on www.MountAthletics.com and at www.LoyolaGreyhounds..com.

UP NEXT: The men’s team return to the courts at the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted by the University of Virginia (Oct. 19-23) while the women are next in action at the Towson Invitational (October 14-16).
