Emma Raducanu named for British BJK Cup Finals team, but will she play?

Emma Raducanu has been named in Great Britain’s team for this year’s Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

Raducanu, 19, made her Billie Jean King Cup singles debut when Great Britain took on the Czech Republic in a qualifying tie. Even though Great Britain lost to the Czech Republic, they are set to play in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals after Glasgow was named as a host city for this year’s tournament edition.

Anne Keothavong, the British Billie Jean King Cup team captain, also named Harriet Dart, Katie Boulter, and Heather Watson for the event in Glasgow. However, there are no guarantees that Raducanu will be able to play at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

After losing in the Ostrava first round last week, Raducanu pulled out of this week’s Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca due to a wrist injury.

A wrist injury forced Raducanu out of Cluj-Napoca

Raducanu, who debuted in Cluj-Napoca last year, was hoping to return to the tournament this year.

Unfortunately, the Transylvania Open organizers were forced to announce Raducanu’s withdrawal. “Unfortunately, Emma Raducanu will not be with us at this edition of the Transylvania Open, due to an injury. We know that many fans wanted to see the player with Romanian origins on the court, and we would have liked to offer them this experience.

However, tennis is unpredictable, and in such situations the only solution is recovery. We wish Emma the best of health and get back on the field as soon as possible,” the Transylvania Open organizers said in a statement.

The Billie Jean King Cup Finals will take place between November 08-13. Raducanu has time to recover but it wouldn’t be surprising if she decided to end her season prematurely and focus on getting back to fully healthy ahead of the 2023 season. It remains to be seen if Raducanu will recover in time for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
