The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is investigating Lonnie Teagle, Paetow’s former high school head football coach and campus athletic coordinator, following an allegation of misconduct involving a student.

Teagle took over the head coaching job at Paetow earlier this year and had only been in the role for six months when Katy ISD officials brought him in for questioning over alleged misconduct involving a student. Shortly thereafter, Teagle resigned from his post, according to KHOU.

Parents at Paetow High School received an email on Tuesday stating that “Campus Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach Lonnie Teagle has resigned for personal reasons,” KHOU reported.

A Katy ISD spokesperson responded to Chron’s questions about the investigation with a statement:

“Katy ISD Police have been investigating an allegation involving a former head football coach. The individual resigned during the investigation and the matter has since been referred to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office,” said the spokesperson said in a statement. “The safety of Katy ISD students and staff is the District’s top priority. Whenever the District becomes aware of an allegation, the accused is immediately removed from their District assignment(s), while staff of the district is working quickly with law enforcement and other agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.”

The district has not confirmed the nature of the allegations against Teagle or what prompted Katy ISD police to refer the case to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

The Paetow High School football team moved up a division, from Class 5A to 6A, after winning the Division I 5A State Championship last December under head coach BJ Gotte. Teagle took over from Gotte in April after two years as offensive coordinator at Billy Ryan High School in Denton, Texas, according to the Houston Chronicle.
