Michigan football improved to 6-0 last Saturday after beating Indiana 31-10. Our pundits took advantage of their early prediction for this game, and they’ve now reached three of their previous four predictions for Wolverines. This Saturday marks Michigan’s toughest test yet, as they host the No. 10-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions for a matchup with the Big Ten. Penn State is a perfect 5-0, so a team’s undefeated streak will come to an end this weekend.

Let’s dive into Michigan vs. Penn State football prediction with odds provided by Caesars Sportsbook.

Michigan Football vs Penn State Football Prediction

Michigan football takes on Penn State this Saturday afternoon in a game featuring two teams ranked in the top 10 in the latest AP poll. While the Wolverines have impressed this season, they might be getting a little too much respect against a Penn State team that can compete with anyone in the country if they play their best.

The Nittany Lions’ defense is one of the best in the country, and QB Sean Clifford has faced Michigan three times in his career at Penn State and is 2-1. He’s looked a lot more confident this season and has enough support to move the ball against a Michigan defense that’s faced weaker opposition so far this season. We expect Saturday’s game to end in the fourth quarter, which could make it difficult for Wolverines to cover a seven-point gap.

Michigan Football vs. Penn State Best Bet with Penn State +7 (-110 at Caesars Sportsbook)

Michigan football and Penn State are two of the most successful teams in the country, but we think the Wolverines’ stats are a bit of a stretch. They destroyed Hawaii, UConn and Colorado State, which are combined 5-13, but struggled against Maryland and Iowa. Plus, their 21-point win over Indiana was closer than the scoreline showed, and we think second QB JJ McCarthy could struggle against the Nittany Lions’ defensive unit.

The Penn State defense is ranked sixth in net points per drive defense, eighth in expected points added (EPA) defensive margin, and is in the top 10 nationwide in opponent rushing EPA. It matters because Wolverines RB Blake Corum has been a big part of their offense, and we think Penn State can own the line of scrimmage. This will force McCarthy to attack a strong secondary, and we’re not convinced the second can continually break them.

Penn State QB Sean Clifford has been in this rivalry game before, and we anticipate he can keep the Nittany Lions close throughout the contest. Paired with a solid defensive effort, our Michigan vs. Penn State’s football prediction is on the Nittany Lions +7.
