Pac-12 Football Power Rankings Week 7: It’s near the top with LA Schools, Oregon Ducks

Los Angeles’ two undefeated teams took the top two spots in this week’s Pac-12 Football Power Rankings from The Oregonian/OregonLive, while the Oregon Ducks are in third.

The USC Trojans maintained their grip on the No. 1 spot, with the UCLA Bruins and Ducks each trailing. USC and UCLA are each 6-0, with the seventh-ranked Trojans visiting No. 1. 20 Utah this week and the 11th-ranked Bruins sitting idle and preparing for their next game. ‘october. 22 confrontation against No. 12 Ducks in Eugene.

Utah fell two spots to fourth after the Utes’ loss at UCLA, while Washington State and Oregon State’s Beavers rounded out the top half of this week’s standings. The Cougars and Beavers are scheduled to face off Saturday night in Corvallis.

Here are this week’s power rankings from The Oregonian/OregonLive sports staff.

1. NO. 7 USC Trojans (6-0, 4-0)

Survey Points: 79 (4 first place votes)

Last week (1): Beat Washington State 30-14. USC’s defense cracked down, limiting Cameron Ward and the Cougars to 316 total yards.

This week: USC at No. 20 Utah, 5 p.m. PT Saturday (TV on Fox).

2. NO. 11 BROWNS UCLA (6-0, 3-0)

Survey Points: 77 (1 vote for first place)

Last week (4): Beat Utah 42-32. Dorian Thompson-Robinson scored five touchdowns as the Bruins snapped a five-game losing streak against the Utes.

This week: Idle. Next in Oregon on Saturday, October 10. 22.

3. NO. 12 OREGON DUCKS (5-1, 3-0)

Survey Points: 75 (2 votes for first place)

Last week (3): Beat Arizona 49-22. Bo Nix rushed for three of the Ducks’ seven rushing touchdowns and also threw for 265 yards to power Oregon’s victory.

This week: Idle. Next against UCLA on Saturday, October 1. 22.

4. NO. 20 UTAH UTES (4-2, 2-1)

Survey points: 62

Last week (2): Lost to UCLA 42-32. The Utes went 28-25 in the fourth quarter before the Bruins scored two touchdowns in two minutes to tie the game.

This week: Utah vs. No. 7 USC, 5 p.m. PT Saturday (TV on Fox).

5. WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS (4-2, 1-2)

Survey points: 54

Last week (5): Lost to USC 30-14. The Cougars committed 11 penalties for 106 yards and were shut out in the second half.

This week: Washington State at Oregon State, 6 p.m. PT Saturday (TV on Pac-12 Networks).

6. OREGON STATE BEAVERS (4-2, 1-2)

Survey Points: 49

Last week (7): Beat Stanford 28-27. Tre’Shaun Harrison’s stunning catch and run for a 56-yard touchdown gave the Beavers a narrow victory.

This week: Oregon State vs. Washington State, 6 p.m. PT Saturday (TV on Pac-12 Networks).

7. WASHINGTON HUSKIES (4-2, 1-2)

Survey Points: 41

Last week (6): Lost to Arizona State 45-38. The Huskies beat the Sun Devils 458-397 and tied the game at 38-38 in the fourth quarter before ASU took the lead for good.

This week: Washington vs. Arizona, 2:30 p.m. PT Saturday (TV on Pac-12 Networks)

8. ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS (2-4, 1-2)

Survey Points: 34

Last week (T10): Beat Washington 45-38. Backup quarterback Trenton Bourguet went 15 of 21 and threw three touchdowns to carry the Sun Devils after Emory Jones was injured.
